Vigiles du vivant is a series of rectangular slabs of pure beeswax, made in various formats and conceived as candle paintings. Rooted in ritual and mysticism, the works are meant to be activated during the exhibition: each piece contains several wicks and burns over time for a role defined by the artist (and the different size wicks).

As the wax melts, the painting continuously remakes itself. Drips and flows redraw the surface, while the flame sometimes licks the wall behind it, leaving a scorched black trace like an accidental shadow or a record of contact.

The series addresses the climate crisis through material and process. Beeswax, a byproduct of honeybees, comes from a species increasingly under threat. By allowing the works to burn, the installation stages a world disappearing in real time, melting in front of the viewer’s eyes while simultaneously generating new forms, as if collapse and creation were inseparable.
